Everything from one path to the whole plot

Paving, driveways, artificial grass, turf, retaining structures, cover, lighting and screening — across Barnsley and the villages around it.

Turf

Turf and levelling

A real lawn is still the cheapest way to change how a garden feels, as long as the ground under it gets prepared instead of raked over. Stripped, graded, topsoiled where the ground is poor, then laid tight with staggered joints so it knits together rather than shrinking apart in the first dry fortnight.

  • Old lawn stripped and the ground graded to a proper level
  • Screened topsoil brought in where what is there will not grow anything
  • Turf laid tight, joints staggered, edges cut clean against paving
  • Levels set so the mower is not scalping a hump in month two
  • Watering and first-cut advice before we leave site

Structures

Pergolas, canopies and outdoor kitchens

Cover is what decides whether a garden gets used in April and September or only in July. Louvred pergolas, timber canopies and covered cooking areas, built into the paving so the posts, the levels and the water all get worked out together instead of being bolted on afterwards.

  • Louvred pergolas and timber-framed canopies
  • Covered cooking and seating areas set into the terrace
  • Post bases built into the paving build-up, not fixed on top
  • Power and lighting routed in while the ground is open
  • Roof water taken somewhere sensible rather than onto the patio

Walls

Retaining walls, steps and sleeper beds

Barnsley gardens rarely arrive flat. Rather than fighting a slope with an ever-thickening bed of mortar, it gets held: sleeper beds, brick and rendered retaining walls, and steps wide enough to walk down carrying something.

  • Oak and softwood sleeper raised beds
  • Brick, block and rendered retaining walls with drainage behind
  • Radius and straight steps with paved treads
  • Split-level layouts that give you two usable areas
  • Existing walls and stone features worked around and tied into

Lighting

Garden lighting

The cheapest line on most quotes and the one people mention most afterwards. Uplights into trees, strips under seating walls and step nosings, and lighting set into a pergola frame. Cabling is straightforward while the ground is open and a proper job once the paving is down.

  • Tree and feature uplighting
  • Strip lighting under walls, copings and step nosings
  • Lighting built into pergola and canopy frames
  • Path and stepping stone lighting
  • Cable runs laid before the surfacing goes down

Fencing

Fencing, screening and borders

Screening is what makes a garden feel like yours rather than overlooked by three neighbours. Slatted panels, close board fencing and planted borders that give the hard landscaping something soft to sit against.

  • Slatted hardwood and composite screens
  • Close board and panel fencing with posts set in concrete
  • Raised planted borders and bark beds
  • Structural planting, shrubs and specimen trees
  • Gravel, cobble and stone detailing between the hard edges

One programme

Planned together, a garden hangs together. Done in stages, it looks done in stages.

Paving, lawn, walls, cover and lighting all touch each other — levels, edges, cable routes, where the water ends up. Set out as one job there are no compromises where two bits of work meet, and there is one price rather than four.
